As a father of two wonderful (now adult) children,* there was so much joy to found in sharing a bedtime story with my kids. I loved it. But..
Let's be honest, reading the same book again and again can become a little repetitive. You know, again and again. The same words, again and again. And again. So I started to wonder, would it be possible to write a book that would entertain me, as a tired (and somewhat awesome) dad, almost as much as my offsping. A book full of colour, fun characters and a narative simple enough for them to follow and adore, whilst bringing a smile to a parents face, even on the third read that week.
With 'Berkus' I found children loved sharing the read. If they had questions about the odd word here and there, nothing was difficult to explain. Vocabularies grew and the conversations that arose made storytime a two way experience. Before long they were reading to me.
Shared magic you could say.
*Father's day is just (insert number here) days away kids, don't forget me.
Order the book? Go on, you know you want to...
